what happens when you wash the filter? Do I need to replace them?
If the filter has been washed with hot water, dish soap or dishwasher yes you will need to replace the filter. The hot water and soap will damage the filtration media

No, you change it when you start tasting the chlorine or bad taste in your water or when it starts getting hard to suck water through the filter.

The instruction sheet that comes with the filter says if it is advanced or standard.
