Coconut Shell Carbon

Coconut Shell is a high grade carbon

Coconut shell carbon has been proven highly effective for the removal of tastes and odors. Coconut shell carbon provides a significantly higher volume of micropores than either coal, wood or lignite-based carbon. And is very popular in the potable water purification industries. Not only because it is made from a renewable resource but also because it produces very good tasting water and is particularly good at trihalomethane (THM's) removal and other chemicals from municipally supplied water. And is the best grade carbon you can get.

Below are a few Water Filters That we offer with coconut shell carbon, most all of the Crystal Quest Water Filters have coconut shell carbon in them. And also Kdf 55 and kdf 85 Which removes chlorine. Iron and hydrogen sulfide are oxidized into insoluble matter and attach to the surface of the media. Heavy metals such as lead, mercury, copper, nickel, chromium, cadmium, aluminum, and other dissolved metals are removed from the water by the electrochemical process. Read more on KDF. Water Flows through the KDF media before the coconut shell carbon to remove the chlorine before it reaches the carbon, so the carbon capacity is not wasted on chlorine and is free to concentrate more effectively on organic contaminants.

Activated carbon a miracle filter media

Granular activated carbon is a highly adsorbent material used to remove contamination from water. Activated carbon has been known as a miracle filter media by many researchers because of its unique ability to remove offensive tastes, odors, color, chlorine and volatile organic chemicals, pesticides and trihalomethanes (a group of suspected carcinogens). Briefly, activated carbon acts like a sponge, with a large surface area to absorb contaminants in the water. The surface area of one pound of activated carbon is equal to 125 acres. Many scientists believe this is a result of an affinity that these chemicals have for carbon because of Van Der Waal forces. Activated carbon is the preferred treatment and method recommended by the EPA to remove a host of potentially hazardous and possibly carcinogenic chemicals in drinking water. A partial list of chemicals that are reduced or removed by activated carbon are:
